Breakout Sessions

How Customers Manage Data on Kubernetes [CEIB1210US]
Winner of the VMware Explore People’s Choice Awards!

Data is at the center of every multi-cloud journey. Applications need data services regardless of the infrastructure they run in. There are many flavors of data services in the world today; messaging, caching, and even databases. Come see how you can have a unified experience when dealing with the variety of data services you need. Customers have been able to automate a lot of solutions at the push of a button and build some really cool features on top of our operator with Postgres for Kubernetes like Disaster Recovery and Point in time Restore and this is just the beginning. Products & Solutions – This mainly aligns with Tanzu SQL which includes Postgres and MySQL on any flavor of Kubernetes on-prem or any public cloud infrastructure

Going Big with VMware Greenplum: 8 Million Queries Per Day [CEIB1648US]

Greenplum Database by VMware is a massively parallel processing (MPP) database with an architecture specially designed to manage large-scale analytic data warehouses and business intelligence workloads. These deployments will always have some unique business challenges related to design and administration to ensure extraordinary outcomes and query speeds. As part of this session, we will explore how VMware virtualized configurations leveraging software-defined infrastructure, such as Dell PowerFlex, can address the challenges organizations face with extreme scale, performance, density and availability. You will hear from key infrastructure managers from our customer, Dell, using VMware Greenplum for production. This session will include a live demo of the jointly validated VMware Greenplum solution from VMware and Dell. During the demo, you will get to see how this environment performs under real-world conditions with production data, along with backup and disaster recovery capabilities.

Protect Purdue: Data-Driven University Operations in a Pandemic Powered by VMware Greenplum Analytics [CEIB1907US]

The coronavirus pandemic was an unprecedented challenge for universities across the world. How could operations continue in person without unacceptable risk of life and illness? Purdue decided to pursue methods of safe in-person education shortly after lockdowns began in March 2020. The ability to open safely was achieved in large part through data-driven decision-making using VMware Greenplum. Executives and the medical team received up-to-the-minute analytics built off a sophisticated, Purdue-developed, data ecosystem and digital contact tracing system. These tools worked together to contain the spread of COVID-19 and allow Purdue to continue operations in person from fall 2020 onward.

ML at the Edge is Different: Architecting AI/ML to Unlock the Value of Your Data [CEIB2799US]

There is an explosion of smart devices at the edge, but the upstream bandwidth is not ready to support the instant decision-making needs and the sheer amount of data generated by these devices. Analyzing and reducing data at the edge has data sovereignty and latency advantages. Cloud native architectures for AI/machine learning (ML) promise performance, resilience, and ease of management, but how does it all fit in together at the edge? Model generation will happen in the cloud, but most inferencing will occur at the edge for real-time decision-making. This talk will highlight the differences between a regular and an edge-optimized AI/ML application model. We will showcase the design considerations to be made in terms of ML application deployment, data streaming with RabbitMQ, data management, and monitoring. We will also demonstrate a simple application running on VMware Edge Compute Stack.
